Big Data for Development Network in the UN World Data Forum 2018 (Oct 21-24, 2018)

The partner organizations of the Big Data for Development Network (BD4D) met in Dubai, within the framework of the UN World Data Forum, to present the progress of the initiative and discuss the potential of South-South cooperation and peer learning to generate better data in the Global South.

Meeting of the Big Data for Development Network's Africa Node (May 10, 2018)

The Big Data for Development Network's Africa node held its first meeting on 10th May 2018 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Representatives from private sector, academia and government were present to hear about the Network and offer their views on possible collaborations and potential value of the Network in Africa. BD4D's core areas of focus are ending hunger and affordable energy which are 2 of the 5 areas of focus for the African Development Bank in its Hi5 framework.

The Big Data for Development Network (BD4D) in Costa Rica (April 26, 2018)

The event, organized in collaboration with Telefónica Costa Rica, was an opportunity for more than 30 private sector companies interested in the use of big data for development and media representatives, to learn about the BD4D network, a Southern-led network that seeks to create relevant research for national, regional and global big data policies for development in the Global South; develop capacities among Southern researchers to address data development and governance issues; as well as to involve the private sector and decision makers in collaborative initiatives.

We presented the Big Data for Development Network at the Data for Development Festival in Bristol (March 2018)

The Data for Development Festival was an event for the partners and friends of the GPSDD that focused on driving action and fostering strong links for improved outcomes in the short term (73rd UN General Assembly in September and the World Data Forum in October), and in the longer term to 2030. The event provided an opportunity to participate in numerous thematic events, network with the global data community, meet representatives of the Global Partnership’s new Board of Directors and Technical Advisory Group, and shape the partnership’s future.
